Gil Kaupp - Trumpet

Gil Kaupp began playing trumpet at the age of 14. His promise as a musician was soon recognized by his High School band director who encouraged him to major in music and apply for a music scholarship. Accepting a scholarship to the University of Texas in El Paso, Gil played in the Symphony Orchestra. After discovering his love for Jazz he transferred to the University of North Texas in 1979 which is noted for its excellent Jazz Department. Gil majored in Jazz Performance and studied with the great Don “Jake” Jacoby and Donald Byrd. Among his other instructors were: Dan Haerle, Jack Peterson, Rich Matteson and Leon Breeden. Gil has been continuing his education throughout his career and has been studying with clinician and trumpeter extraordinaire Bobby Shew.

After his studies from 1978 to 1982 Gil moved to Munich Germany and has since been one of the top call trumpet players in the country. He has travelled as a player and a soloist to all the Scandinavian countries, the Benelux, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy and the Czech Republic. Apart from travelling and performing, Gil has been a recording session player with over 200 recordings to his credit.

Gil also has experience being a musical director for touring groups. He was musical director for the world renowned group “The Weather Girls” for their european 72 concert tour from 1995 to 1997. From 1998 to 2001. musical director for the group “Eruption feat. Precious Wilson”. Concerts with Eruption include a Carribean tour. Gil is versed as both a lead and jazz trumpeter and just moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.
